Hey everyone!
If you’re reading this, it means we survived the flight and our 4-week Erasmus adventure in Tbilisi has officially begun! As IT students, we’re usually staring at code, but for the next month, the EU is actually funding us to experience a completely different country and check out its crazy-fast-growing tech scene.
Our journey started on Saturday evening at the Munich Airport, and honestly, the travel gods were definitely on our side.
Here is how our first night went down:
1. Speedrunning Munich Airport
We got to the airport in the evening, and since we could check-in our handluggage for free, we headed straight for the self-check-in kiosks. We printed our tags, dropped the bags, and breezed right through security. Seriously, the lines were non-existent. We cleared the checks so fast we actually had a ton of time to kill.
So, what did we do? We basically camped out at the gate, waiting until 22:00 German time for our plane. We were just a mix of pure excitement and nerves, talking about what the next month would look like and how far our EU grant money would actually go once we landed.
2. Overclocking the Flight ✈️
When 10 PM finally rolled around, we boarded. The flight was supposed to take a solid 4 hours, but our pilot must have been in a rush. Thanks to some awesome tailwinds, we knocked 30 minutes off the time and made it to Georgia in just 3.5 hours!
3. Landing at 4 AM (And the Best Welcome Ever)
We stepped off the plane around 04:00 AM Tbilisi time, and if you’ve ever landed in a brand-new country before sunrise, you know the feeling. We were running on zero battery, our brains were lagging, and everything felt a little surreal.
But the absolute best part? We didn't have to wander around lost. Marko and another teacher from our program were already there waiting for us at the airport! Seeing them at that ungodly hour of the morning was the biggest relief. They picked us up, loaded our bags, and drove us straight through the quiet, dark streets of Tbilisi to our new apartment.
By the time we finally crashed into bed, the sun was just starting to peek out over the city.
