And just like that, the final day of our incredible four-week exchange program arrived. It was a day of high emotions, reflective meetings, and a long, overnight journey back home to Germany.

Here is how our final 24 hours in Georgia played out:

1. Final Reflection with the Rector

Our morning at the school began with an official closing meeting with the rector. We sat down to look back on everything we had accomplished over the past month. We discussed the progression of our projects, the success of the Python lesson and school system presentation, and our overall impressions of the exchange. He thanked us for our hard work, and we expressed our deep gratitude for his incredible hospitality—especially that wild trip to the border fish farm!

2. Bitter-Sweet Goodbyes with the Faculty

Next, we held a final gathering with all the teachers from our host faculty. Saying goodbye was genuinely difficult. Over the last three weeks, these educators hadn't just been our instructors; they had become true friends. Leaving the tight-knit community we had built here was a stark reminder of how deeply we had integrated into the school. After a round of heartfelt thank-yous, warm hugs, and promises to stay in touch, we walked out of the school doors for the very last time.

3. Decompressing and Packing Up

In the afternoon, we headed back to our apartment. The vibe was quiet as we spent the remaining daylight hours destressing, packing our suitcases, and organizing our things for the journey home.

4. The 2:00 AM Airport Run and Flight Home

Just like my mom's departure a few days earlier, European flight schedules meant a brutal nighttime itinerary:

  • 02:00 AM: Our airport transfer car arrived at the apartment to pick us up and drive us into the quiet streets of Tbilisi.

  • 05:00 AM: After dealing with a stressful delay of over an hour at the gate, we finally boarded the plane and took off into the morning sky.

  • 07:30 AM (German Time): Our wheels touched down at Munich Airport.

🏁 The End of the Journey

Stepping out into the crisp morning air in Munich, it officially hit us: the adventure was over. We left Germany four weeks ago as standard apprentices, and we returned with international teaching experience, an understanding of Soviet history, memories of Armenian monasteries, and lifelong friends in the Caucasus.
